Vladimir Putin is a man of very much Soviet nostalgia, and wants to form a Eurasion union with most of the post-Soviet states. The Eurasion Union would build upon “the best values of the Soviet Union”, according to Putin, which sparks the question of a possible revival. Obviously wouldn’t be the Soviet Union in it’s namesake, but something similar. Impending threat to the US in the eyes of some critics, blah blah. This Eurasion Union is beneficial to Russia directly of course economically and politically, but could also be a safeguard in the event of any sort of war-like trouble (with us or otherwise). Russia’s got missiles that completely disregard the missile shields our country has, as well as Europe, and crazy as fuck submarines that are undetectable until a few dozen kilometers out (and at that point, you’re fucked). Russia is building back up and no one cares to pay attention because of everything that’s (been) going on in the middle east and all the other hot spots of corruption. (This is not to be confused with a conspiracy theorist type comment, merely a fact). They’re not even trying to be sneaky, and have said flat out basically, yeah we’re real nostalgic about the Soviet Union, we want to create a Eurasion Union with all of our ex-Soviet neighbors, we’ve got some really crazy missiles and subs, and we’re going to get our empire up and running again cause damn, red looked good on us. Oh, and your space program is paying us $50 million per astronaut sent to the space station via our shuttles. And if/when something bigger comes up about Russia sometime in the future, everyone is going to say oh man, that came out of the blue! Well…no. No, not really at all actually. Putin has been gloating, as he does about his fancy cars, Russian sluts, so on and so forth, just no one’s been listening. Not saying America is under prepared at any cost, we’ve got pretty crazy weaponry ourselves. I just think it’s interesting that something that ended the year I was born may be building back up. But to make things interesting, Russia was recently admitted to the WTO after 18 years of waiting and talks, so I don’t know how much dicking around they want to do.

This is just a really informal observation. Tell me what you think if you know anything about it, I’d love opinions. I’m really very neutral about it, but I do think the Soviet Union was a really fucked up, interesting empire. One of my favorite things to read about in history.
